Anaphoric
We use `anaphoric reference' when we look back
to an earlier word or words in a sentence to
discover the meaning of a word or phrase. So in
the sentence `Although the children were tired
after the morning's work they could still enjoy
the afternoon story' the second part of the
sentence makes sense in the light of the first.
